Kun-chin Lin, Ph.D. has joined the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations as a Research Fellow. Dr. Lin is a University Lecturer in Politics at the University of Cambridge and Acting Director of the Centre for Rising Powers. He serves on the Frost & Sullivan’s Board of Economic Advisors and the academic board of the Growth, Innovate and Leadership (GIL) University in Malaysia. His research interests include the political economy of China, infrastructure and energy security, industrial policy, maritime governance, regulatory diffusion, and regionalism in Asia.

Mr. Naoyuki Haraoka has joined the blogger community for the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations. Naoyuki, a member of the Wong MNC Center Advisory Board, and an Executive Managing Director, Japan Economic Foundation (Japan) will share his expertise on economic matters, especially Japan, but also about other Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum members. Among other things, JEF organizes annual APEC-area symposiums on free-trade agreements and trade and investment policy issues.

Dr. Scott B. MacDonald, Head of Research and a Senior Managing Director at MC Asset Management Holdings, LLC, a U.S. SEC registered Investment Advisor based in Stamford, Ct, USA, and a regular blogger for the Wong MNC Center, has joined the Wong MNC Center Advisory Board. He is a co-author of Asia’s Rise in the 21st Century and When Small Countries Crash and numerous other monographs.

Jing Li, Ph.D. has joined the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations as a Research Fellow. Dr. Li is Associate Professor of International Business and Associate Director of the Jack Austin Center for Asia Pacific Business Studies at Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University, Canada. Her research interests center around international investment strategies, emerging market multinational enterprises, and management of international joint ventures. She has published over 20 articles in these research areas in leading international business and strategy journals and currently serves as Senior Editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Management.

On September 29, the Board of Directors of the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations ("Wong MNC Center") elected Ms. Brenda Foster to the Board of the Wong MNC Center. In addition to being an Executive-in-Residence at the University of Hawaii, Ms. Foster is President & CEO of Foster & Associates, LLC, an international consulting firm. She also is a member of the Hawaii Pacific Export Council and a Board member of the Pacific Forum/Center for Strategic and International Studie (CSIS), Pacific Historic Parks, the Japan America Society of Hawaii, and the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation.

Enrique Dussel Peters, Ph.D, and Benjamin H. Creutzfeldt have joined the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations, as respectively, Senior Research Fellow and Research Fellow. Dr. Dussel Peters is Professor, Graduate School of Economics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the author of more than a dozen books and several dozen articles covering China's trade, overseas foreign direct investment, and Chinese firms in Latin America and Latin American firms in China. Benjamin H. Creutzfeldt is Associate Professor at CESA School of Business in Bogota (Colombia) and has authored various articles and book chapters on China’s political and trade relations with the countries of the region. H. Richard Nakamura, Ph.D. and Francesca Spigarelli, Ph.D. have become research fellows of the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations. Dr. Nakamura is Assistant Professor at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg (Sweden). Dr. Spigarelli is Assistant Professor at the University of Macerata (Italy), delegate of the Rector for Entrepreneurship and for Technology Transfer, and coordinator of the 7PF Marie Curie-IRSES project, financed by the European Commission, on "Partnering Opportunities between Europe and China in the Renewable energy and Environmental industries" ("Poreen”). Dr. Jean-Marc F. Blanchard, Founder and Executive Director of the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations ("Wong MNC Center") was quoted in two South China Morning Post stories published on September 1. In one entitled "Shanghai Free-Trade Zone Offers Mainland China Firms a Springboard" (http://www.scmp.com/print/business/china-business/article/1582452/shangh...), he was asked about his assessment of the development of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.

The Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations ("Wong MNC Center") has concluded an agreement with the Department of World Economy of the St. Petersburg Faculty of Economics pursuant to which it will be a co-sponsor of the "Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges" international conference to be held Oct. 9-10 in St. Petersburg, Russia (English link: http://worldec.ru/eng/178/184.html; Russian link: http://worldec.ru/ru/144/59.html). Jean-Marc F. Blanchard, founding executive director of the Wong MNC Center, will give a keynote address at the conference.
