In mid-October 2014, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will host the World Investment Forum (WIF) 2014, which is themed "Investing in Sustainable Development." As described by UNCTAD, the WIF, which has been held in Ghana, Africa, and Qatar, is a "high-level, biennial, multi-stakeholder gathering designed to facilitate dialogue and action on the world’s key emerging investment-related challenges" and it has the mission of "providing a platform where a debate on 'investment for development' can take place" as well as "promoting investment flows that contribute to sustainable and inclusive development." Among other things, the WIF 2014 includes meetings between heads of state and the CEOs of multinational corporations (MNCs), a roundtable among government ministers, a roundtable on boosting green investment and infrastructure development, an academic conference geared towards influencing the academic research agenda, and an opportunity for MNCs and small and medium size enterprises to showcase their solutions to development challenges.
